Corbett received 65 for James’ death and 50 for Linda’s attempted murder, ABC News reported.
Corbett, who was 16 years old at the time of the stabbing, wasn’t charged until 2018, when DNA evidence linked him to the crime scene.
Linda was stabbed 23 times in the attack on the couple’s home in Goshen, Indiana, in October 2011. James was stabbed to death while trying to help his wife, according to ABC News. While Linda, who spoke virtually during Monday’s prayer, survived, the Goshen University biology professor did not survive.
“Winston’s actions brought fear into my life. He scared our neighborhood and brought fear to our community,” Linda said at the hearing, according to Goshen News.
“There are several days when I want to die because I could not bear the pain,” the widow said, according to ABC News. “There are also many days that I planned to die because the pain was unbearable. The night we lost Jim, we lost a lot.”
Judge Michael Christofeno told Corbett that the evidence during the November trial “showed the depth of depravity, calluses, abomination and sociopathy in his behavior.”
Corbett did not speak when he was convicted, but claims to be innocent and is considering hiring a public defense attorney, WNDU News reported.
