Utah authorities are investigating the bizarre murder of a Utah woman by her son. Early reports suggest that both the victim and the suspect’s younger sister may have been aware of her intention to kill their mother.
According to the Deseret News, 23-year-old Mike Lopez was charged Dec. 23 at his Springville home for the murder of his mother, Victoria Ramirez, 43. The suspect’s two younger sisters, ages 14 and 17, were present at the time of the murder, which Ramírez appears to have expected.

Police documents obtained by Deseret News show that Ramírez was sitting at a dining room table with his daughters when López entered the room with a gun and pointed a gun at them.
“Mike turned to his 14-year-old sister and they nodded,” before the 14-year-old ran out and locked herself in a bathroom with her older sister standing in the doorway.
“I know you are going to kill me and I love you,” Ramírez said to his son just before shooting her in the head, killing her almost instantly.
The younger sister came out of the bathroom and stroked her mother’s hair. The suspect took her by the arm and, according to the report, began dancing with her next to her mother’s body.
The 17-year-old sister locked herself in a bathroom after the shooting and escaped through a window. She ran to the home of a relative who lives nearby and apparently someone contacted the police.
Responding officers apparently detained Lopez without incident. When informed of the allegations, he reportedly began to cry and said: “Someone told me to do this.”
According to an affidavit, the older sister told police that her brother supplied the younger sister with marijuana, who said she knew it was going to happen.
Police found in the report that the girl had acted “very strangely” during an interview. She reportedly smiled when asked if she would like to dance with her brother next to her mother’s corpse and recited the song without showing any emotion.
The teenager also claimed that it was not his mother who was killed, according to the report. He told police that he spent a lot of time with his older brother and that they slept in shifts “so they could take care of each other.”
Lopez allegedly had THC in her system at the time of the murder. He is charged with murder in the first degree, domestic violence in the third degree in the presence of a child and possession of a weapon in the third degree by a person with a disability. The report does not specify why Lopez was not legally authorized to acquire a weapon. Presumably you bought the gun the day before the murder.
