Leland Rudeen Age

Leland Rudeen, a 2-year-old girl from Cumming, died Thursday, six days after she was found motionless on her second birthday in a swimming pool in a vacation home in Marathon that her family rented in the Florida Keys.

According to a Facebook post on behalf of her parents Benjamin Rudeen and the girl’s mother, Kristan, the toddler died after “devastating” MRI results.

“Shortly after the devastating MRI results, as we were preparing to make some tough decisions ahead of us, Leland took the choice out of our hands and began its painless decline,” the post reads. “Our little princess is resting now.”

The girl’s parents decided to donate some of their organs to save other children.

“Despite our immense loss, we have chosen to do good with what happened and we will give up to 6 babies the chance to live because of our most precious angel,” continued the heartbreaking post. “She was always very caring and always wanted to help others. It only seems right that with her death we are giving her the chance to save others. ”

The Monroe County sheriff’s office said Leland was flown to a Miami hospital on April 9 after she was found in the pool of the family’s vacation home on the 100 block of Coco Plum Drive in Marathon.

“According to Detectives, adults lost sight of the child before they found him in the pool shortly afterwards,” department officials said in a statement.

Those in the field immediately began bringing CPR to Leland. She was first rushed to a hospital in Marathon before being flown to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami.

“Foul play is not believed to be a factor in the incident,” investigators said.

Just three days before the terrible find, Benjamin Rudeen published a photo of the smiling blonde girl, who was sitting in a chair on the beach with her hands in her lap. Then on Sunday he desperately asked for help.

“Some of you already know that the loveliest and happiest little girl is fighting for her life after an accident on vacation,” wrote Rudeen. “Any help is greatly appreciated. Leland’s mother and I are grateful for everything. We’re lost right now and just want our little girl to be home again. ”

An online fundraiser set up for Leland dwarfed $ 51,000 on Friday. According to the organizer of the campaign, the girl was celebrating her second birthday the day she was found.

According to the family post, plans are underway for a memorial service to celebrate life for Leland.
