Reeder’s disappearance was reported on May 26th in the Dekalb district. She was found in a barricaded outbuilding by Fred of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office after investigators narrowed down her whereabouts during the search. Reeder ran up and hugged the dog after the rescue.
The six-year-old girl had previously been removed from her father’s care after they were found camping under a bridge in rising water in March. Investigators used thermal imaging and drones to narrow down Reeder’s possible location in the Pea Ridge Community area. The officers were given an item from the father and “allowed Fred to smell it” to help the bloodhound track the six-year-old. “In a statement, the sheriff’s office said,” They traveled to the house and released Fred walking along one side from the house to a fire pile, a truck and an outbuilding. He sniffed the door and the doorknob, then sat down to show that he had found the father. ” Police said the father and daughter were found in the back of the shed behind blankets hung on a makeshift clothesline.
DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray said, “There was no ventilation or air conditioning in the small outbuilding. There was hardly any food or water for the child. Gallon buckets. “Police said the father was arrested for child molestation and neglect. He also had no-show and custodial arrest warrants. After the brave rescue, the dog was rewarded with chicken and pizza crusts. Fred’s handler said,” I did praised and loved him. I pulled the chicken reward out of my pocket. He ate the chicken and wanted to meet other people like to say, “Look what I did.”
Kinzleigh Reeder was later released into the care of the Department of Children’s Services of Tennessee. The father was previously arrested in March for child abuse and neglect after driving his Nissan Rogue off-road where it got stuck in the creek. Reeder was then transferred to the provisional care of a family member by the Children’s Service and the father was given permission to live in the same house after his release from prison. The Department of Children’s Services contacted law enforcement officers on June 21 after they were granted custody of the girl but they were not located. The father was taken into custody and his bail was set at $ 175,000.
