Colorado police have identified an officer who was killed on duty early Sunday.
Constable Dillon Vakoff, 27, was killed while responding to a major domestic disturbance call. When officers arrived, they found a “chaotic scene with several people on the street,” the Arvada Police Department said.

The first two officers were attempting to separate several belligerent and uncooperative individuals when the suspect began firing a gun and shooting at a female victim.
A shootout ensued between officers and the suspect when Vakoff was shot.
“The second officer at the scene attempted to rescue his friend and colleague and administer first aid,” police said in a news release.
Vakoff was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The unidentified suspect was also shot during the exchange of gunfire. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in custody. He is expected to survive.
The victim was taken to hospital and is believed to have survived. His involvement in the incident is currently unknown.
Vakoff has been on the force since 2019.
“Dillion exemplifies all the good things you want in a cop. He was trained as a SWAT officer and would no doubt go on to make a positive impact on his community,” the statement read.
Prior to his service with the Arvada Police Department, Vakoff was a Sergeant Major in the United States Air Force, where he served for six years. Vakoff was an Arvada resident who graduated from Ralston Valley High School in 2012.
“This is a tragic loss for this community, for this department, but especially for his family and loved ones. His ministry and his sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the press release read.
