Jarrell reportedly threw his naked children down the fire escape at his Rockaway Parkway apartment at around 11:00. On Saturday before jumping to the ground and continuing to injure the newborn after landing on concrete in the yard, police and witnesses said.
Carl Chin, who lives in a row house near the backyard of the house, was quick to snatch the baby from his mother’s arms.
“He grabbed the two children and hurt them even more,” Chin told The Post on Saturday.
“He had the baby under control and I had to remove him from his grasp and hold him until the police and paramedics arrived,” he added. “When he tried to hurt her children and I snatched them from her hands, he thanked me and told me to take care of her.”
Chin, 41, said her young mother told her she was “tired of being alone” after the shocking incident that left her sister-in-law “scared” and “traumatized.”
The four-week-old survived the fall on two floors, but remained in critical condition and the two-year-old suffered non-fatal injuries, according to a New York police spokeswoman.
The mother and baby were taken to Brookdale Hospital, police said, while the baby was taken to Maimonides Hospital.
The neighbors were still shocked by the news on Sunday.
“He’s been here for about three months. She was a good person, a mother, “said Herman Moultrie, 62, who lives in the building next to Jarrell.” She wasn’t on the street or anything like that. I didn’t know she had a problem like that. ”
“I think she was tired of being alone or maybe she was sexually abused.”
Agatha Altifois, 62, who lives in the same condominium, added: “I have lived here for five years and have never heard anything like it.
“But it is very difficult to know where someone is, especially when he has two small children.”
