The attempted murder charge was brought against a suspect who shot dead on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago earlier this month and seriously injured a child, Chicago police said Thursday.
Deandre Binion, 25, of Chicago, is accused of shooting from the truck he drove on April 6 that cornered 22-month-old Kayden Swann in the temple. The boy, who suffered a severe brain injury, was placed in a medically induced coma and placed on a ventilator. Earlier this week, doctors at Lurie Children’s Hospital said Kayden was no longer in intensive care and had made “remarkable progress”.

According to authorities, a pickup truck that came into traffic almost collided with a car owned by 43-year-old Jushawn Brown. When Brown stopped and yelled at the truck, its driver pulled out a gun and pointed it at Brown. At this point Brown took his gun and placed it on his lap.
When Brown tried to escape, the truck caught up with him and his driver fired multiple shots, one of which hit Kayden. After the shooting, Brown lost control of his car and crashed. A Good Samaritan took baby Brown and a woman to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in a car. Kayden was then taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital.
While police initially said Brown shot the truck, prosecutors said he held the gun in his lap. Investigators retrieved Brown’s gun and accused him of illegal possession of firearms.
A hearing for Binion is scheduled for Friday. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he was being represented by a lawyer.
