A police officer who went to school to keep young people away from crime was imprisoned for more than two years after a series of s*xual offenses against children, including attempting to encourage s*xual relations with children 13 years of age or older. .

Darryl Moffatt, 30, previously worked as a school association officer in the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC).

After his arrest in June of this year, he was immediately suspended from his duties and charged with various sexual offenses against minors.

Officers seized Moffatt’s phones and computers and discovered that he had downloaded pictures of sick child abuse from the Internet and social media.

The researchers discovered and participated in a series of publications, online chats and meetings with 14-year-olds.

Plead guilty

Moffatt of Small Heath, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to three counts of taking indecent photographs of a child and spreading an indecent image of a child.

He also admitted that he was trying to have sex with a boy and that he was trying to provoke or induce a boy between the ages of 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activities.

Moffatt was imprisoned at Birmingham Crown Court for two years and eight months today (Monday) after pleading guilty to him in December.

He is also on a s*x injury prevention order for five years and on the Sex Offender Registry for ten years.

Chief Inspector of Detectives Sam Batey of the West Midlands Police Department of Public Protection said after the case: “Moffatt’s actions were unfortunate.

He was abusing his trust and should have understood the impact his actions would have on those involved.

‘All of the high schools that Moffatt came into contact with as part of his role were fully updated during our investigation as we recognize the difficulties and concerns this may have caused.

“This behavior is not acceptable. We strive to find those who commit these crimes against children and seek justice.

“I invite anyone who has suffered this type of abuse to come forward and share what happened. We are at your disposal with specialized representatives. “”

David Jamieson, Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands office, said in a statement: “Between September 2017 and June 2020, Moffatt worked with high schools in Birmingham to commission activities to keep young people away from crime.

After Moffatt’s arrest on June 19, 2020, he was immediately suspended and his fixed-term contract was not extended.

“The crimes for which he was convicted have nothing to do with his work. However, we share the shock and disappointment of the people.

“The seriousness of his crimes should not be underestimated. We are all deeply saddened by the events that took place.

“During the investigation, we worked closely with the police, local authorities and schools to ensure the safety and well-being of students and youth.”
