A 50-year-old app designer Andrew Innes appeared on trial for double homicide after allegedly beating a 25-year-old mother Bennylyn Burke of two with a hammer and killing her two-year-old daughter.

Andrew Innes reportedly beat Bennylyn Burke to death

Andrew Innes reportedly beat Bennylyn Burke to death with a hammer in his Dundee home.

The software engineer is also believed to have murdered his two-year-old daughter Jellica Burke in an unknown manner in her home during a 17-day window.

Innes was faced with a petition alleging two murder charges when he briefly appeared privately at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday afternoon.

He allegedly committed the two murders between February 17 and March 5 this year at his home on 21 Troon Avenue.

The first indictment alleges that he attacked Bennylyn Burke by repeatedly hitting her on the head with a hammer or similar instrument and murdering her.

The second claims that he attacked and murdered his little girl “by means currently unknown to the prosecutor.”

Innes appeared over the weekend after his arrest, rather than in front of Sheriff John Rafferty.

The case was continued for further investigation and Innes was taken into custody.

Home on Troon Avenue

Meanwhile, a forensic team searched the family home on Troon Avenue, where a tent and dumpster were set up in the garden.

Officers arrived at the scene on Friday afternoon and stayed on the spot all weekend after initially responding to an investigation into missing people.

Ms. Burke and her two children were last seen in Bristol on February 17th and reported missing on March 1st.

A seven year old girl was found alive on the Dundee property and is being assisted by the police.

It is believed that Ms. Burke is originally from the Philippines and traveled to Bristol about two years ago.

Scottish police confirmed over the weekend that the investigation had become a homicide investigation, although no bodies were found at the time.

Ms. Burke reportedly had family members who lived in the UK and were told they were her closest relatives.

A friend from Bristol paid tribute and told reporters, “It was heartbreaking and we all cry all the time. It is so sad.

“Jellica was so happy and so nice. Bennylyn was a full time mom and her daughter was her life.

“ She was a very bubbly girl and we always laugh together. She was very pretty and always smiling and so pretty. We are more than devastated.

“ Bennylyn always had fun with Jellica and we met for pizza and picnics. The last time I saw them was in Bath before the December lockdown.

“She looked so happy. It’s so heartbreaking to think about it now.

Door-to-door surveys were conducted in the Ardler neighborhood of Dundee, where Innes lives in a £ 250,000 five-bedroom house.

Detectives are trying to determine the full extent of Ms. Burke’s movements from her last visit to Innes’ arrest.

Detective Superintendent Graeme Mackie of the Scottish Police’s Major Investigation Team said, “I ask anyone with information to speak to us.

“This is a complex investigation involving both local Dundee officers and Scottish Police officers.

Bennylyn’s relatives have been informed of the arrest and are assisted by other Avon and Somerset police officers.

“At this very difficult time, our hearts go out to his family and friends.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Scottish Police on 101, citing incident 1434 on March 5, 2021.
