Byerly was reportedly one of several rioters who attacked Associated Press photographer John Minchillo during the siege by supporters of former President Donald Trump, court documents show.
The suspect allegedly pushed and shoved the photographer and then, according to the announcement, dragged him down a staircase leading to the Capitol.
Byerly then grabbed him both near the shoulders and upper neck and pushed him away, court records show.
Minchillo was saved by a Good Samaritan who escorted him through the crowd as rioters attempted to storm the building to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
Byerly is also said to have charged police officers in hand-to-hand combat as he held a Taser gun that appeared to have been activated by him near the police.
Officers lined up with Byrerly after spotting the Taser, but managed to break free after another riot helped him escape a police officer, according to the complaint.
More than 500 protesters have been charged, killing five people, including a Capitol policeman.
The cases are being processed by the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. and are under investigation by the FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies.
