Demolition worker accused of killing his aspiring model wife was found dead in his prison cell after his weight dropped to 150 kg behind bars.

Sabah Hafiz, 23, was found dead on October 14 last year at her home in Wentworthville, west of Sydney.

Police said she was severely attacked at the time and no weapons were used.

Her husband, Adam Cureton, 25, was arrested the next day and charged with murdering her.

Cureton died behind bars in Silverwater Prison, west of the city, on June 13 pending trial.

Her sister Alicia said prison staff believed her brother had had a heart attack, the Daily Telegraph reported.

“They basically said he died in his sleep in the morning, they thought it was a heart attack,” she said.

“He arrived with 70 kg and when he died he was 130, almost 150 [kg].

Her sister said the antipsychotic drugs she was taking in prison were known to cause her to gain weight and her death may have been accidental.

“It wasn’t suicide… I just know she was taking hard drugs, antipsychotics. They told me I was taking other people’s drugs, “she said.

Parramatta District Court Judge Peter Feather dismissed the case against Cureton.

NSW Corrective Services confirmed that Cureton was found unconscious in his cell at 7:35 am on June 13 and pronounced dead at 8:35 am.

“NSW corrections and NSW police are investigating the incident,” a spokeswoman said.

“All deaths in custody are subject to coronal examination.”

During the dramatic police tapes of his arrest, Cureton could be heard shouting his wife’s name.

Ms. Hafiz’s former father had cried when he arrived on the scene.

“She was a good girl,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

Ms. Hafiz’s father said he had never met Cureton, but he understood that the couple had been married for several years.

Police said Ms. Hafiz would be attacked and did not believe a weapon had been used.

Ms. Hafiz had an ad on StarNow.com that she described herself as an aspiring model and she was looking for additional show business.

“I’m looking to gain experience in this industry and getting paid is fine too,” Hafiz wrote.

“I’ve never thought about it, but I like to be spontaneous and try new hobbies every now and then, so yeah, really interested.”
